Uponor PEX-A Tubing

PEX tubing is a modern and popular choice of plumbing material for repiping projects. PEX is made of flexible plastic, eliminating the need for coupling joints where leaks most commonly occur.

PEX is inexpensive, easy to install, resistant to build-up, and will not corrode when exposed to Vancouver’s acidic water supply.

Stainless Steel Piping

A more expensive option than PEX, stainless steel is used in situations where greater strength and superior corrosion resistance are required.

BMS has the distinction of being the first company in Vancouver to complete a full re-piping project using stainless steel for a strata-titled, 24-story high-rise with 200 units in 2013.

Ductile Iron Piping

Ductile iron piping is typically used for potable water systems as well as sewage and drainage systems. A protective internal lining is applied (usually cement mortar) that inhibits corrosion.

“K” Grade Copper Piping

In situations where PEX piping is not appropriate, BMS uses type ‘K’ certified copper pipe. ‘K’ grade piping is the heaviest gauge copper piping available, making it the thickest, sturdiest, and longest-lasting hard copper piping available.

While ‘K’ grade copper piping is more expensive than ‘L’ or ‘M’ grade piping, it lasts longer, and its durability pays off in the long run.

Our typical re-piping work includes the removal and replacement of the following:

• Galvanized Steel Piping

Galvanized steel piping was a popular product over 30 years ago. While effective in the short term, this type of piping rusts over time which can negatively affect the smell and taste of water. This piping is also prone to build-up which can affect water pressure.

• Polybutylene (Poly B) Pipe

Polybutylene pipe is a plastic pipe product that was typically installed from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s because it was cheap and easy to install. Unfortunately, polybutylene is sensitive to UV light and reacts with chlorine and other oxidants which cause the pipes to become brittle.

Over time, polybutylene pipes can develop small leaks or suddenly burst causing water damage that can lead to toxic mould developing behind walls.
